Dr. Robert S. Kiken is a graduate of NYC College of Dentistry. He trained in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Lincoln Medical Center, Bronx, New York, the busiest surgical emergency hospital in New York City. Dr. Kiken's training in oral and facial reconstruction was extensive! Following his internship and residency, he remained at Lincoln as a teaching attending surgeon instructing students. Also, at this same time, he was an instructor for residents at Nassau County Medical Center on Long Island, New York.
In 1983 Dr. Kiken and his family moved to Santa Barbara, California where he started his private practice. He became a staff member at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Goleta Valley Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. He has continued to maintain a strong presence at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, performing maxillofacial procedures, instructing residents and giving lectures. His vast experience in facial reconstruction and in dentistry makes him expert in his specialty, which include surgical reconstruction of the face and dentition, ecspecially with surgical placements of dental implants with associated bone grafting.
Dr. Kiken has an expanded scope practice, and he loves to learn and grow his knowledge base as new technologies emerge. He feels that is it important to keep up with the ever-changing technologies and continues to challenge himself with new surgical protocols and strategies.
Dr. Kiken became board certified in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 1990 and recertified in 1997 and in 2008. He is also board certified by the National Board of Dental Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS), California Association of OMS (CALAOMS). Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties Dental Society, California Dental Association (CDA). He is an onsite anesthesia examiner for California Dental Board and an instructor in basic and advanced cardiac life support which he heads for the SBVCDS. Dr. Kiken serves on the Trauma Team at Cottage Hospital administering to medically compromised patients in hospital setting.
Dr. Kiken is a sports enthusiast and loves to run, play basketball, mountain bike, scuba dive and heliski. Now that his children are grown he and his wife, Susan, are enjoying travel, friends and one another. He is down to earth, empathetic and someone you could feel comfortable with as a person while at the same time exuding confidence and experience so that you know that you are in good hands with Dr. Kiken.
