Brief History

Ocean Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was founded in 1983 by Dr. Robert S. Kiken after he relocated from New Jersey to Montecito. He sought to bring a boutique style practice, where the main focus was on quality patient care. Originally located on Carrillo street, he moved to our current Bath Street location in 1995 to be closer to Cottage Hospital, where he continues to be on medical staff. Dr. McAninch joined the practice as an associate in 2016, then purchased it in 2017. Dr. Kiken and Dr. McAninch continued to work together until 2024. After this, Drs. Rivera and Lanzon joined the practice, after having practiced together with Dr. McAninch in Lompoc since 2019. Today, each surgeon brings a unique perspective and skill set to the practice. But each of them also brings the same ethical, patient-centered, high-quality approach to their treatment that our practice is founded upon
