Dr. David McAninch and Dr. Robert Kiken have significant experience in placing dental implants. When you visit Ocean Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, you can expect to receive a personalized consultation and treatment plan, and the highest quality of care throughout your entire visit at our office. Please call us today to learn more about dental implant placement and schedule your appointment with our oral surgeons in Santa Barbara, California.

Our oral surgeons will begin by administering a local anesthetic to the area where the implant will be placed. This anesthetic may be combined with IV sedation or nitrous oxide to enhance your comfort. We may also provide an antibiotic prior to your surgery. We will then make a small incision in your gum tissue to reveal the bone. Through this incision, we will create a space, and gently insert your titanium implant post. The top of this implant may be visible through the gum. Your implant placement procedure will take 30-60 minutes for a single implant, and up to 2-3 hours for multiple implants.

Following implant placement, you will enter the healing phase. The length of time needed for proper healing varies between patients, depending on the quality and quantity of the bone. We will provide you with detailed post-operative care to maximize the healing process.

Following the initial healing phase, our oral surgeons will place an abutment, or healing cap, on the implant during a follow-up visit. When you are sufficiently healed, your dentist will provide you with a restoration to cap the implant and complete your treatment.
